Rooms, not pages
Projects and interests behave like places to enter. The architecture supports exploration without turning every route into the same template.
Founder project · Personal site
GregVRoberts.com is the personal site of DraftGlow founder Greg Roberts. It is not a client case study. It is a deliberately unconstrained demonstration of custom art direction, interaction design, responsive engineering, and the amount of personality a website can carry without becoming unusable.
The brief
The goal was never to make a conventional software-engineer portfolio. The site needed to feel like wandering through Greg's actual interests: software, local AI, hardware, 3D printing, reef keeping, experiments, and whatever rabbit hole came next.
That meant the architecture, writing, motion, interface details, and hidden interactions all needed to support the same personality rather than sitting on top as decoration.
What makes it custom
Distinctiveness comes from a coherent system, not from stacking random effects.
Projects and interests behave like places to enter. The architecture supports exploration without turning every route into the same template.
A site navigator, live status, hidden terminal, secret doors, playful warnings, and small responses reward curiosity while staying out of the way of ordinary browsing.
Reveal choreography, state changes, and transitions make the site feel alive without requiring scroll-jacking or compromising reduced-motion preferences.
Responsive hardening, semantic structure, keyboard focus, reduced-motion handling, metadata, canonical URLs, structured data, and device safeguards support the weirdness.
The DraftGlow takeaway
Custom does not mean making every client site look like GregVRoberts.com.It means giving every site a reason to look like itself.
Same standard, different outcome
GregVRoberts.com is expressive, strange, dense, and personal because that is the brief. A plumbing company, law firm, restaurant, or contractor should not inherit that personality. They should get the same level of thought applied to a completely different business.
That is the point of showing the founder project: not “we can make your site look like this,” but “we can go this deep when the project calls for it.”
